Springbok Casino keno: 80 numbers, 20 drawn

Springbok Casino keno is a number draw in the lobby's Specialty tab. You mark 1 to 15 numbers on a card of 80, the game draws 20, and the more of your marks that come up, the more your row of the pay table returns.

A game costs R0.01 to R10 and can pay at most R250,000. Keno is also the only quick game whose stakes count toward Springbok's bonus wagering.

The rules

How to play keno at Springbok

Every game runs through the same four beats. You decide how many numbers to play (keno calls them spots) and mark them. You set a stake. The game draws 20 of the 80 numbers at random. Then it counts your hits, meaning the marked numbers that were drawn, and pays whatever the pay table lists for that many hits on that many spots.

The spot count matters as much as the hits. Five hits on a 5-spot card is a full catch and pays 800x; the same five hits on a 10-spot card pay 2x. In effect the pay table is 15 small tables, one per spot count, and the game reads the one that matches what you marked.

How a keno game is marked

  1. Your picks: 1 to 15 numbers (8 in this drawing).
  2. The draw: 20 numbers come up each game.
  3. Hits: picks that are drawn (4 here). With 8 spots the pay table starts at 5 hits, so 4 hits pays nothing.
Illustration of the rules only, drawn by this guide: not a real round, not Springbok's artwork, and not a guide to what will happen next. The pay figure comes from the keno pay table read on the game screen on 9 October 2026.

Two shortcuts sit on the game screen. Quick Pick marks 10 numbers for you, and the run buttons (Play 1, Play 5 or Play 10) replay the same numbers for that many draws in a row. Each draw in a run is its own stake, so a run of 10 at R10 commits R100, not R10.

Your first Springbok keno game, step by step

  1. Open the Specialty tab

Keno shares the tab with European Roulette, Banana Jones and Fish Catch. The lobby gives it a release date of 1 February 2002.

  2. Try it on fun money first

Springbok says logged-out visitors get a one-off R1,000 practice balance. The pay table on this page was read in that mode, so you can match every figure against the real screen before a rand is staked.

  3. Set the stake

The bet starts at R1 a game. Step it down as far as R0.01 or up to R10. Above R1, check the top prizes again, because the screen lowers some of them to keep each game under the cap.

  4. Mark your spots

Tap 1 to 15 numbers, or let Quick Pick choose 10. The payout panel shows what each number of hits is worth for the spots you have marked.

  5. Play one draw or a run

Choose Play 1, Play 5 or Play 10. Single draws are the easier way to learn how the payout panel reads.

  6. Read the result

The game draws its 20 numbers, counts how many match your marks and pays the pay-table amount for that count. The next draw starts from scratch: nothing about this one carries over.

The Springbok keno pay table

The full table follows, row by row. Each figure is a multiple of your stake: catching the only number on a 1-spot card pays 3x, which is R3 back on a R1 game. Three details are easy to miss:

  • Some pays only return the stake. Two hits on 4 spots pay 1x: your bet comes back and nothing more.
  • Long rows skip the small hits. On a 10-spot card nothing pays below 5 hits; on 15 spots the first paying count is 7.
  • A blank card can pay. On 13, 14 and 15 spots, a draw that misses every one of your numbers pays 2x. No shorter row does that.

Every game is capped at R250,000, so at higher bets the screen shows lower top prizes: at R5 the 13-15 spot tops read 50,000x, and at R10 they read 25,000x.

The R250,000 cap and higher stakes

No single keno game at Springbok pays more than R250,000, whatever the table says. At stakes up to R1 the multiples above apply as printed, and even the largest, 100,000x, stays inside the cap. Raise the stake and that same multiple would break through it, so the game screen shows a lower top prize instead.

Only these stakes were recorded for the reduced rows, and whether any smaller prize changes at higher stakes was not recorded. Above R1, let the payout panel be the final word.

This guide's arithmetic

Keno odds: how often each row pays

Keno odds come straight from the card. With 80 numbers and 20 drawn, the chance of any number of hits can be worked out exactly, and the table below does that for every spot count against Springbok's pay table. The figures assume every number is equally likely to be drawn, as in standard keno. They are this guide's sums, not figures Springbok publishes.

Chance per game, worked out from the card size, the draw size and the pay table above.
SpotsHits that payChance of any payChance of catching every spot
111 in 41 in 4
221 in 171 in 17
32 or 31 in 6.61 in 72

53 to 51 in 101 in 1,551

95 to 91 in 261 in 1.4 million
105 to 101 in 151 in 8.9 million
116 to 111 in 411 in 62 million
126 to 121 in 251 in 478 million
130, or 6 to 131 in 131 in 4.1 billion
140, or 6 to 141 in 9.81 in 39 billion
150, or 7 to 151 in 211 in 428 billion

'Any pay' includes pays that only return the stake. Each draw is fresh, so earlier results never shift these odds.

Read down the table and the trade-off is plain. A 1-spot card pays something about 1 game in 4, but only 3x when it does. A 10-spot card pays anything about 1 game in 15, and the full catch behind its 100,000x line comes up about once in 8.9 million games. Whatever the spot count, the pay table sets the long-run return, not your choice of numbers.

Keno tips that are honest about the maths

  • Small cards are not all alike. On this pay table a 4-spot card pays something about 1 game in 3.9, usually just the stake back for 2 hits, while a 2-spot card pays only on a full catch, about 1 game in 17. Check the odds row before assuming fewer spots means more pays.
  • Long cards mean long dry spells. From 7 spots up, a paying draw comes about 1 game in 9.8 at best (14 spots) and 1 in 48 at worst (8 spots), and the headline prizes need a near-full catch.
  • Quick Pick is neither luckier nor unluckier. The draw has no idea who chose the numbers.
  • There are no hot or cold numbers. A number drawn three games running is exactly as likely next game as one that has not shown for fifty.
  • Runs spend faster than they feel. Budget for the whole run you choose, up to 10 draws, not for a single one.

Keno and Springbok bonus wagering

Counts toward bonus wagering

Springbok's terms name the games that clear a bonus: 7 Stud Poker, Bingo games, European Slot Poker, Keno, Pai Gow Poker, Scratch Cards and all Slots. Keno is on that list, so keno stakes count toward a coupon's playthrough. The other bonus rules still apply, including the R100 maximum bet while a bonus is active.

Springbok terms and conditions, checked 9 October 2026.

That makes keno the one quick game where a coupon and the arcade can share a session. The maximum-bet rule is easy to live with here too: a single game's top stake of R10 sits well under the R100 limit on bets made with a bonus.

The playthrough builds slowly at keno stakes, though. Deposit coupons ask for 30x the deposit plus bonus, and the free chip asks for 60x its value, R15,000 of play, which is 1,500 games even at the top keno stake. Budget the time as well as the rand, and run your own numbers through a Springbok wagering calculator before you redeem anything.

Springbok quotes the chip's maximum payout two ways, so both are shown here rather than one picked for you.

Springbok's cashback needs no coupon at all. If a deposit made without a bonus runs to nothing, support can return 25% of it, up to R3,000, and that money carries a 10x playthrough that keno stakes count toward. Checked, 9 October 2026

The rest of the arcade works the other way round. The crash games, Banana Jones and Fish Catch are not on the list, and a bet on any of them while a bonus is still being wagered voids it. Finish the playthrough on keno or slots first, or play those games from cash with no coupon active.

Quick answers

How do you play keno at Springbok Casino?

Open the Specialty tab, set a stake between R0.01 and R10, mark 1 to 15 numbers (or let Quick Pick choose 10) and play. The game draws 20 numbers and pays by how many of yours come up.

What is the biggest keno prize at Springbok?

The pay table's top multiple is 100,000x the stake, but no game pays more than R250,000. At R5 and R10 stakes the screen lowers the 13-15 spot top prizes to 50,000x and 25,000x to stay inside that cap.

Does keno count toward Springbok's bonus wagering?

Yes. Keno is on the list of games in Springbok's terms that clear a bonus, unlike the crash, plinko and other casual games. The R100 maximum bet while a bonus is active still applies, though a single keno game stops at R10.

Can you play Springbok keno for free?

Springbok says logged-out players get a one-off R1,000 practice balance in fun money. The keno pay table on this page was read in that practice mode, without any real-money games.

What are the odds in Springbok keno?

They depend on how many spots you mark. With 80 numbers and 20 drawn, a 1-spot card catches its number about 1 game in 4, while catching all ten on a 10-spot card comes up about once in 8.9 million games. The odds table on this page covers every spot count.

Is there a keno strategy that beats the game?

No. Each draw is random and independent, so hot or cold numbers, patterns and Quick Pick versus your own picks make no difference. The spot count only changes how often the pay table pays and how much.
